Happy Chocolate Day

How’s the stomach feeling? A little queasy? Are you experiencing an overwhelming desire to go and run 10 km to burn off some excess calories? No? Then clearly you haven’t eaten enough chocolate yet today. Happy Easter.

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for a ROW80 check-in.

Goal 1: write at least 500 words a day until the first draft of my novel, 2 Brothers, is complete. DONE, DONE, DONE!

Goal 2: once goal #1 is achieved switch to editing mode on the apocalyptic YA novel, aiming to edit ~5 pages a day.

Before I can delve into a detailed edit I have decided to complete a read-through of the novel (as I haven’t looked at it since I finished the first draft last October). I’m aiming for 6 chapters a day, while making some notes on character and repetition and major plot flaws. Today was day 3 of this edit process and I’m on target at the moment having just finished reading chapter 18. The good news is I am absolutely loving this story and even more importantly I am loving the characters. The rebellious, blue-haired Mila is still my favourite character to date. Love, love, love her.

Goal 3: keep up with my aim to read 50 books this year.

Since the last check-in I read The 100 by Kass Morgan, making it 14 books thus far this year and keeping me perfectly on target for my 50 total. I found the book quite disappointing but I won’t bore you with the details here, you can check out my review here if you’re interested (and while you’re there make sure you friend me on Goodreads).

How did your week go? Are you a chocoholic like me? Do you have a character that stands out as a clear favourite? Have you read The 100, or seen the TV show? Were you impressed or, like me, left feeling a little like you just read a 300 page prologue and you’re waiting for the real story to start?

As always, I love hearing from you.

  1. I have been so good about not having chocolate yet today. But, my sister gave me a bag of miniature chocolate bars…and they are calling my name. I can hear them whispering to me “kat, kaaaaaat….you know you want to open the bag and unwrap us. Come on, do it…just have one…” and that of course is just the start of it. I figure I’ll cave in about 2.3 minutes. 🙂

Congrats on completing one of your goals and moving on to the next one! Isn’t that a great feeling, being able to cross something off on the list? I love being able to do that.

Have a great week and good luck on furthering your progress!

    • Turns out that after all that worry about chocolate I should have been more concerned about chips and cider. 1 night away camping and the few chocolates I indulged in were the least of my worries 🙂

  2. I bought nice chocolates for my husband and I. There were 14, and we shared one with each of the kids, who also picked candy they wanted. I think there are 6 left, so we’re not gobbling.

I used to be a lot more into chocolate than I am today. As i’m getting older, I’m finding I have less of a sweet tooth, and like savory tastes more.

A bowl of onion soup is not safe with me around! =)

Squeee on the crossoff! =D And blue-haired characters, too.
